Team BikeExchange-Jayco rider Dylan Groenewegen collected his third win of the season over the weekend, dashing to a stage victory at the Tour de Hongrie.

Groenewegen delivered the win to cap a brilliant team effort on Stage 4 of the five-day stage race in Hungary. His team helped chase down a four-man breakaway that was caught inside the final 25km of the hilly 177km stage, then put the 28-year-old Dutchman in position to unleash his winning sprint.

Riding his Propel Advanced SL Disc team bike with a CADEX WheelSystem, Groenewegen launched his sprint from 200 meters out, beating fellow Dutch sprinter Fabio Jakobsen and Frenchman Rudy Barbier, who finished second and third respectively.

“It’s a really important win,” said Groenewegen, who wore the Giant Pursuit helmet to earn the victory. “It’s been a difficult season. We had two wins with the sprint team already but after that we had a lot of sickness and I also crashed [here], but today we had a bit of luck.”

Stage 4 started and finished in the northern Hungarian town of Kazincbarcika and included three categorized climbs. After coming up short in their efforts to control the sprint earlier in the week, the team played it to perfection on the penultimate stage.

“Today we used everyone,” Groenwegen said. “In the last days we mixed thing up and got boxed in, and today we had freedom. The speed was really high in the bunch and on the climbs, but I could stay in the bunch and the team got me to the front.”
